WhatsApp is adding new privacy options to its app, including the ability to block screenshots and use stealth mode

WhatsApp  August Update

The firm revealed on Tuesday that WhatsApp is implementing a flurry of privacy-conscious changes to its chat software. According to the Meta-owned worldwide omnipresent messaging service, the modifications seek to give users greater choice over their experience while introducing "additional layers" to preserve their private chats.

WhatsApp will provide an option for users to use the service quietly without being seen online, dubbed "online presence control." The function will be available to all users later this month, allowing WhatsApp users to choose which contacts may see their online status while hiding it from others. There is no limit on contacts who may access your online status, and you can add and remove individuals at any moment.

The business is also experimenting with screenshot blocking for "view once" notifications, which vanish after only one opening. A year ago, WhatsApp launched a vanishing media option, warning users that they wouldn't be able to tell whether the receiver was keeping any sent photographs and videos as screenshots. The tool is currently in testing, but the business intends to make it available to all customers "soon." (It's worth noting that anyone can still take a photo of their screen with a separate device, so don't feel too comfortable with applications that have vanishing messaging.)

The final result is a little but noticeable improvement in quality of life. This month, WhatsApp will enable members to quit groups discreetly without issuing a bulk message. Group administrators will continue to be alerted, but this change should make navigating among groups on the app more seamless and less unpleasant. This modification will be applied to both the desktop and mobile versions of the app.
